Dr. Ogundare is a Fellow of AORN and co-chairs the AORN eChapter. He is a seasoned registered nurse specializing in perioperative nursing education and practice. He is a public health expert with over 16 years of experience in healthcare, hospital administration, and strategic nursing leadership. Over the past 16 years, he has developed perioperative nursing skills, becoming versatile in both the circulator and scrub/first assistant roles across various surgical specialties and advanced minimally invasive interventions.
He has contributed immensely to the capacity building of nursing staff, especially in perioperative care. He has fulfilled numerous academic and leadership responsibilities in nursing within the Nigerian healthcare ecosystem and on the international stage. He was once a clinical applications Specialist for the Olympus-KeyMed Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery business division at JNC International Limited, a turnkey health solutions company in Nigeria.
In 2016, he founded the Society for Nurses in Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery, Nigeria (SNEMIS-Nig.) to advance endoscopy and minimally invasive surgical nursing in limited-resource sub-Saharan African countries. Today, over 1000 nurses from Nigeria, Ghana, and Ethiopia are trained in endoscopy and minimally invasive surgical nursing, including education, clinical practice, and skills integration, through strategic partnerships with stakeholders in minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. He co-authored chapters in Gastroenterology and Laparoscopy textbooks, and Dr. Ogundare Johnson has also contributed to the body of knowledge through several research publications. Before relocating to the USA, he last worked as a nurse manager (operating room, central sterile supply, and endoscopy units) at Evercare Hospital Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria.
Furthermore, Dr. Ogundare Johnson is committed to lifelong learning, Health, Safety, & Environment. He is a member of the Society for Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA), the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) in the U.S., and the Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) in the U.K.
