Description:
Introduction:
CO2 laser laryngeal surgery presents unique risks beyond those of conventional surgical procedures. Ensuring the safety of both patients and healthcare professionals requires meticulous planning and adherence to specific protocols.
Purpose:
To implement and evaluate safety measures aimed at minimizing risks associated with CO2 laser laryngeal surgeries, thereby enhancing patient and staff safety in the operating room.
Methods:
A dedicated checklist is used to ensure the verification and testing of specialized equipment, including CO2 laser beam tests and appropriate endotracheal tubes. Preventive measures were established to mitigate risks of airway and facial burns. Protective equipment, such as fine-particle facemasks and laser safety goggles, was provided to all staff. Warning signage was placed outsideoperating room doors to prevent unauthorized entry during procedures.
Results:
The implementation of these safety protocols led to a reduction in laser-related incidents. Staff reported increased confidence in handling CO2 laser equipment, and no cases of ocular or respiratory injuries were recorded during the study period.
Conclusion:
Adhering to structured safety protocols and providing appropriate protective equipment are critical in minimizing risks associated with CO2 laser laryngeal surgeries. Continuous evaluation and staff training are essential to maintain high safety standards and quality of care.
