Description: "Surgical Savvy, An Inside Look at the Operating Room" is an elective 200 level nursing course designed for nursing students interested in expanding their knowledge and skills in the perioperative care of surgical patients. This 1 credit elective provides an in-depth exploration of the surgical nursing process, including preoperative assessment, intraoperative responsibilities, and postoperative management. Emphasis is placed on patient safety, aseptic techniques, surgical instrumentation, anesthesia care, and interdisciplinary collaboration within the surgical team. Through lectures, simulations, and clinical observations, students will gain insight and understanding of the rolls and responsibilities of Peri-Operative Nurse. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to contribute effectively to perioperative care and pursue further specialization in surgical nursing.
