Maureen Spencer, M.Ed. BSN, RN, CIC, FAPIC​ has been board certified in infection control for over 40 years and is an Independent Infection Preventionist Consultant. She was Corporate Director, Infection Prevention for Universal Health Services, the Manager, Infection Control at New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH) in Boston, and prior to that, was the Director, Infection Control Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. She has a bachelor's in nursing from Northeastern University and a Master of Education from Bridgewater State University. Maureen is serving on the national APIC Board on the Nominating and Awards Committee. In 1990, she was awarded the APIC National Carole DeMille Award for her contributions to the field of infection prevention. And in recognition of her work in establishing an MRSA and MSSA Eradication program at NEBH, she was selected as one of the APIC Heroes in Infection Control in 2007. Maureen has presented numerous abstracts and lectures and has published over 55 peer-reviewed articles, and several chapters related to infection control, including a contributing author in the 7th Edition of Brachman and Bennett's Hospital Infection Control 2023.
