Larry began his healthcare career as a Radiologic Technologist (RT), then advanced into nursing after one year of working as an RT. His inquisitive mind demanded more learning, advancing his education from RN Diploma training, then to BSN to MSN at the University of Minnesota. His career experiences have included Orthopedics as a Charge RN, then RN First Assis/RT at a 12-physician orthopedic group, Emergency Trauma Charge RN, and Surgery Circulator, Educator, and Director.
He has been a member of AORN for over 36 years and has served on the AORN Foundation Board for 12 years, including two as President. Larry received the AORN Outstanding Volunteer Leadership Individual Achievement Award in 2022 and was named a Fellow of AORN in 2023. He was also awarded the University of Minnesota Top 100 Distinguished Nursing Alumni Award in recognition for local and national involvement in perioperative patient safety (AORN, CCI Leadership, Co-Founder of Greater Minnesota Initiative for Safe Surgery, and MN Hospital Association’s Safe Surgery Coalition).
