Chelsea Spaid is a registered nurse with 13 years of experience and a strong background in peri-anesthesia care. She is currently serving as a Sr. Nursing Professional Development Practitioner in Ambulatory Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center. With over a decade of clinical experience, Chelsea has demonstrated expertise across multiple surgical specialties, including neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery. Her role as Chair of the Perioperative Educator Committee, along with her leadership in creating a system-wide Perioperative Nursing Symposium and the New to Periop Nurse Residency Program, reflects her strong dedication to enhancing nursing education and fostering professional growth across the perioperative field. Chelsea is a certified CAPA nurse with BLS and ACLS credentials, and she actively contributes to the advancement of nursing practice through her involvement in the university’s Evidence-Based Practice Committee.
Chelsea holds a Master of Science in Biopharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago and dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Nursing and Biology from the University of Rochester and SUNY Geneseo, respectively. Her academic achievements are complemented by research experience and published work in opioid tolerance and neuropathic pain, as well as a master’s thesis exploring the pharmacological effects of herbal compounds on the central nervous system. Whether in the lab, classroom, or clinical setting, Chelsea brings analytical insight, teaching experience, and a passion for improving nursing practice and patient care to every facet of her work.
