Sara has 15 years experience as an operating room nurse at UW Hospital on the Eyes, ENT and Plastic Surgery team. Sara has co-authored several research articles on teamwork in the operating room. In 2019, she received the Nurse Excellence Award. In 2024, she was awarded the 2024 Top Nurses Award from Madison Magazine. In March 2025, she was awarded the UW Health Safety Award for her work on documenting positioning assessments throughout long surgical procedures and the creation of a tool within the electronic medical record to alert nurses when a positioning assessment is needed. Sara is the nurse co-chair of the Green OR Council which focuses on reducing waste and energy consumption, improving fiscal responsibility and provider job satisfaction and promoting collaboration and sustainability education.
