Assistant Chief, Sterile Processing

MAJ Mercedes Maisel took on the role of Assistant Chief of the Sterile Processing Department at Madigan Army Medical Center in July 2024. She launched her military nursing career through ROTC, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from James Madison University. Dedicated to nursing leadership and development, MAJ Maisel further advanced her education, completing a Master's Degree in Nursing Administration/Organizational Leadership from the University of South Carolina in 2020.
MAJ Maisel brings a robust background in perioperative nursing and leadership to her current position, built upon a solid foundation in acute patient care. Prior to specializing in the perioperative area, she served as a Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nurse in Yongsan, South Korea, in 2018. Before that, from 2014 to 2017, she served as a Clinical Staff and Charge Nurse on a Medical Telemetry/Oncology Unit at Tripler Army Medical Center, establishing a strong clinical base. Her journey into perioperative nursing formally began with her successful completion of the 66E Perioperative Nursing Course at Madigan in 2018. Following this, she served as both the Neurosurgery/Orthopedic Service Nurse and OR Floor Manager at Madigan Army Medical Center between 2018 and 2021, and later shaped clinical education as the Operating Room Education OIC at Tripler Army Medical Center from 2021 to 2024. MAJ Maisel holds her Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) board certification.
