Cristina Augusto has been an Adjunct Professor at the Escola Superior de Enfermagem do Porto (Nursing School of Porto) since 2024, where she teaches in the perioperative field. She previously held a teaching position at the Escola Superior de Enfermagem do Tâmega e Sousa, IPSN-CESPU, for three years. Before transitioning to academia, she dedicated nearly two decades to providing care for patients in perioperative settings, while also gaining extensive experience in healthcare team and service management.
She holds additional qualifications in Human Resources Management and Development, as well as in Educational Sciences, which underpin her work in higher education, clinical supervision, and nursing team leadership.
Currently, Cristina Augusto serves as the President of APEPERIOP — the Portuguese Association of Perioperative Nurses. This role reflects her commitment to advancing perioperative nursing in Portugal by promoting scientific knowledge, education, and interinstitutional collaboration.
She is also a researcher in the field of surgical safety and coordinates the international project PURSI4SAFE, which focuses on preventing the unintentional retention of surgical items. This project stands out for its collaborative approach, involving professionals from various countries, and for its innovative educational outputs, including podcasts and multimedia awareness materials.
Cristina Augusto is an active participant in national and international conferences, with a notable presence at the annual conference of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), where she has presented her work on multiple occasions.
