I'm a native Angelo with a career in nursing specializing in surgery. The opportunities presented to me through my institution have allowed me to involve myself in the Unit Practice Counsel as well as being a Preceptor and Mentor to onboarding staff. I'm grateful to not only become more involved in caring for my community, but to also apply myself in creating a safer environment for operating room staff.
The diligence and passion of my fellow teammates to finding a feasible solution finally came to fruition with our project "Stop the Prick, Let's Prevent Needlesticks" which saw tangible results and garnered attention from other UCLA surgical sites after being presented at the UPC Summit. My goal is to present this project to the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses to further reduce harm and cost to our institutions while continuing to provide the highest standard of patient care.
