Barbara has been perioperative nurse for over 20 years and is a lifetime member of AORN. She currently practices as Lead nurse practitioner/RNFA for Urogynecology for University of Maryland health systems. She has over the course of her career served on various national committees and task forces to help improve care of the perioperative patient. She is a patient advocate and believes that patient safety is a priority. She has served as a chair, co-chair and coordinating council member with various Specialty assemblies. In addition, she has served as a volunteer at Expo as a speaker, moderator and session assist she serves as a mentor to perioperative nurses, advance practice nurses, residents and medical students. She has served at the chapter level as president and as a board member in addition to various committees. She has done multiple presentations and posters for AORN at the state and National level. She has been the recipient of the AORN award for outstanding achievement in volunteerism in addition to the AORN award for outstanding achievement in clinical practice. Her goal is to continue to educate perioperative nurses in providing safe patient care.
