Barbara L. DiTullio, DNP, RN, MA, CNOR, NEA-BC, FAORN is the Senior Clinical Director for Safety Quality and Compliance in Perioperative Services at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Barbara is known as a Nurse Leader in academic teaching institutions, managing operations, engaging staff in facilitating change through project improvement, and promoting excellence in nursing practice. In the early 2000s, Barbara helped to develop peer support programs to provide emotional first aid to caregivers involved in stressful work related situations. She is a nationally recognized speaker and author, presenting on topics including communication, new graduate nurse programs, job safety, process improvement, and crisis management related to the Boston Marathon. Barbara received her Doctor of Nursing Practice from MGH IHP where she received the Herzlinger Award for contributions in advancing nursing practice for her seminal work on distractions during wound closure in the Operating Room, published in the AORN Journal where she currently serves as an Associate Editor. More recently, she has been instrumental in providing expertise in construction and expansion of perioperative services into new clinical space, ensuring caregivers and patients have the safest environment possible.
