Dr. Doreen Wagner is a Professor, Nurse Scientist, and the interim Associate Director of Graduate Programs and Research at Kennesaw State University, WellStar School of Nursing, in Kennesaw, Georgia, where she has taught undergraduate and graduate nursing students for 19 years. For the last three decades, Dr. Wagner has been extensively involved in volunteer service leadership. She has found that service is hard to isolate as a separate entity as her service is intermingled in practice, teaching, and research. Dr. Wagner’s sustained volunteer leadership focuses on improving patient safety in the perioperative arena through committee service, policy work, and research evidence dissemination. She is the recipient of the AORN Award for Excellence, the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Research, the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Academic Nursing Education, and the Award for Outstanding Perioperative Volunteer Leadership Award. Dr. Wagner is a charter Fellow of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses and a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
