Edna Gilliam is the assistant vice president of perioperative services and the sterile processing department for the Delaware Valley at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware. In her role, she oversees the perioperative department at the level one pediatric trauma center’s main campus as well as two ambulatory surgery centers in Deptford, New Jersey and Malvern, Pennsylvania. Having a deep dedication to pediatric surgical patients, Edna serves on the advisory committee for the Children’s Hospital Association OR Directors’ Forum. Her dedication involves staying attuned to the nuances of pediatric care, adapting to each child’s distinct needs, and fostering an environment where healing goes beyond the surgical table. Over the last year, Edna has focused her attention on building diverse clinical teams and attracting new nurses to the perioperative specialty. Her critical thinking, innovation, and creativity has contributed to the implementation of numerous strategies and interventions to expose nursing students to perioperative services coupled with building a strong pipeline of graduate nurses into her organization.
Edna completed her DNP at Grand Canyon University, attained a dual degree MSN and MBA from Wilmington University, and her BSN from the University of Delaware. She is also a board-certified nurse of the operating room. With 15 years of perioperative experience, Edna transitioned to nursing as a second career. For her, this career shift was a conscious choice driven by a passion for meaningful impact and a commitment to contribute to the well-being of others in a profound way.
