Melissa Cabahug is a senior staff development specialist II at Virginia Hospital Center (VHC–Heath) Operating Room Department. VHC Health is a magnet level II trauma hospital with 453 bed and nationally recognized teaching hospital that serves the Washington metropolitan area. Ms. Cabahug has over 25 years of nursing experience with extensive background in leadership, education and clinical nursing. She has served in a variety of leadership roles from management to project team lead and currently oversees the 18-main and 6-outpatient operating rooms as the staff development specialist and educator.
Ms. Cabahug received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Liceo de Cagayan, Philippines and a Master of Science in Nursing Clinical Nurse Specialist from Marymount University, Virginia. She obtained certifications from Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS), critical care (CCRN) and operating room (CNOR) nursing. She is a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She is recognized and received numerous nominations and awards such as Perioperative nursing excellence, nursing leadership and nursing clinical excellence from VHC Health and the Virginia Nursing Association.
Ms. Cabahug is passionate about nursing as a profession, encouraging and supporting staff development and professionalism from her team. She also is a strong patient advocate always working to enhance the staff skills and knowledge to promote excellence in patient care and outcomes, while promoting a healthy environment.
