Staff Nurse and Clinical Instructor
St. Luke's University Hospital and Health Network
Laura Bader MSN BSN CNL CNOR has been a Perioperative Nurse for over 35 years. I have been a member of AORN since 2005. Currently I am a staff nurse, preceptor, preference card builder, Vascular Surgery service line advisor and General Surgery/Colorectal Surgery service line lead. I have held many positions in the Perioperative realm from being a staff nurse in the OR, PACU, Same-Day Surgery/GI lab, and Pre-admission testing to being the Charge Nurse in the OR, to being the Manager of the OR, PACU and Pre-Admission Testing and back to being a staff nurse again. I have been a preceptor for newly hired nurses in the OR for many, many years. In 2022, I accepted an adjunct Instructor position at the St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing to be the clinical instructor for their students Perioperative Services Experience, after obtaining my Master's Degree as a Clinical Nurse Leader in 2021. The first year, second semester students have a two-day experience where they either get to follow a patient through their hospital short stay or learn how to do a surgical scrub and how to gown and glove and be up at the sterile field like part of the surgical team. Working as a Perioperative Nurse is truly my passion. When I am not teaching nursing students or orienting new hires, I look forward to caring for our patients in the preoperative Holding Room, the Hybrid OR and in our Robotic Surgery Rooms.
