Mary Kathryn (Katie) Sanders is a Clinical Assistant Professor, The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing and serves as the Chair for the Family, Public Health and Nursing Leadership Division and Faculty Teaching Excellence Coach. Dr. Sanders is an experienced nurse educator with multiple years of experience in pediatrics, perioperative nursing and clinical education leadership. Her areas of contribution focus on evidence-based practices for nursing pedagogy, simulation design, virtual reality simulation and interprofessional education.
Dr. Sanders has contributed to training programs for nursing professionals and nurse educators through programs designed to increase quality in simulation and nursing faculty development. Her scholarly contributions include chapters on interprofessional education and virtual reality simulation as well as presentations at national and international conferences on nursing pedagogy. Dr. Sanders contributes to the advancement of nursing practice through serving as an item writer for the National League for Nursing Certified Nurse Educator - Clinical (CNE-Cl) board exam. She holds certification as an Academic Nurse Educator, and was previously certified through the Association of Operating Room Nurses as a Certified Nurse for the Operating Room. Dr. Sanders has been awarded fellowships through the The Center for Health Interprofessional Education at The University of Texas at Austin, and the Ed and Molly Smith Centennial Fellowship in Nursing. Dr. Sanders serves on the Bylaws Committee for the National League for Nursing and as an officer for the Epsilon Theta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.
