Clinical Education Coordinator
University of Maryland Medical Center
I have been a nurse for 45 years, serving in a variety of departments and role. In 2000 i moved to Perioperative services, and have worked there for the past 25 years. I obtained my Masters with an education focus, and have served as an Educator in Perioperative Services since 2011 at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). In this role I oversee education for new hires and current staff, working in partnership with our leaders and covering over 300 staff in multiple roles throughout the department. We run a Perioperative fellowship program, for those new to service and nurse graduates, and facilitate multiple workforce development projects, working to upskill staff so they can advance in their health care career paths. As Education coordinator I interface with many departments and other educators in our system hospitals, including the Informatics team that we partnered with for this project.
I am active with the local AORN Chapter, having been a member since 2000, working with the Connecticut Chapter, and since 2008 with the Baltimore Chapter 2101. At the Chapter level I have served in multiple positions: secretary, Board, Education Committee chair, President Elect and now President for the Baltimore Chapter.
