DOD/ DHA/ WRNMMC
Shirley Jones joined Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in August 2020 as a perioperative registered nurse. She currently serves as the Weekend Night Clinical Coordinator for the Main Operating Room, overseeing surgical operations and ensuring high standards of care during critical weekend shifts. She is also a member of the Transplant Call Team and previously contributed her expertise to the Robotics Committee.
WRNMMC is the nation’s premier military academic health center, dedicated to providing innovative, patient-centered care while advancing military readiness, medical education, and clinical research. The facility serves a diverse patient population, including active-duty service members, reservists, retirees, and their families.
Prior to joining WRNMMC, RN Jones gained extensive perioperative experience across a variety of clinical settings, including ambulatory surgery centers, level-one trauma hospitals, and travel nurse assignments. Her commitment to clinical excellence and continuous improvement was reflected in her service on the Nurse Practice Council, where she played a key role in reviewing institutional policies and promoting evidence-based practices.
Nursing is a second career for RN Jones. Before transitioning to healthcare, she held leadership roles as a Case Manager and Program Director in residential and community-based mental and behavioral health programs. This interdisciplinary background enriches her approach to patient care and team collaboration.
RN Jones earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Leadership from Rutgers University–Newark. She also holds a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Rowan University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Rutgers University–Camden, and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Justice Studies from The College of New Jersey. She completed a certificate in perioperative nursing at Curry College.
