Joyce A. Castro-Rexach, MSN-Ed, RN, CNOR, is a dedicated nurse educator and perioperative leader who is passionate about professional development, patient-centered care, and lifelong learning. Throughout her career, she has taken on various clinical, academic, and leadership roles, allowing her to develop and implement impactful training programs for perioperative staff. Additionally, she has supported multiple student externships and created collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing recruitment, staff engagement, and education.
Joyce began her nursing journey with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from Montgomery College. She then earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Maryland School of Nursing, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing Education (MSN) from Western Governors University. As a Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR), she is actively involved in various professional councils and committees that promote excellence in nursing practice at MedStar Washington Hospital Center (MWHC) and works hard to ensure there is a light shined on the Perioperative Team.
Currently, Joyce serves as a Nurse Professional Development Specialist for the Operating Room (OR) at MWHC, where she mentors staff, develops educational resources, and contributes to organization-wide educational strategies. She takes pride in creating inclusive and engaging learning environments that empower nursing staff to reach their full potential. She serves as the Leader Facilitator for the Perioperative Collaborative Governance Council and takes great pride in the accomplishments the team has achieved.
