Senior Perioperative Practice Specialist

Dr. Julie Cahn has been dedicated to perioperative nursing since 2003, with extensive experience as a clinical nurse in both scrub and circulating roles across a wide range of surgical specialties. She has served as an educator and Clinical Nurse Specialist, contributing to the advancement of perioperative practice. Having worked in perioperative settings across the United States—from Boston to Honolulu—Dr. Cahn brings a diverse and comprehensive perspective on clinical practice. Her work focuses on the professional development of perioperative nurses and the pursuit of excellence in patient outcomes. She is finishing a PhD at the University of Colorado, where her research centers on perioperative patient and personnel quality and safety. In her work at AORN, Dr. Cahn is a lead author of five guidelines. In 2025, Dr. Cahn was inducted as a Fellow of AORN.
