Dr. Rina Jain, MD, board-certified orthopedic surgeon, completed all her medical and orthopedic training at the University of Toronto. She completed a fellowship in Arthroplasty under Dr. Rod Davey. She was in practice at the University Health Network and then The Scarborough Hospital in Toronto prior to moving to San Diego in December 2002. She is in practice at Synergy Orthopedic Specialists and is a Health Sciences clinical instructor at University of California San Diego. She is also on faculty at Point Loma Nazarene University physician assistant program.
She has published many peer-reviewed papers. She received the Founder’s Medal from the Canadian Orthopedic Association for best research presentation and the best research poster award from the Orthopedic Trauma Association. Dr. Jain has served as Chief of Staff at Sharp Grossmont Hospital, a 500-bed Level II trauma center, from 2010 through 2012. She has served as the Chair of the Women in Arthroplasty Committee and is on the board of directors for the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. She is an associate editor for Arthroplasty Today and reviews for Journal of Arthroplasty and Clinical Orthopaedics. She received the award for top journal reviewer for Journal of Arthroplasty in 2023. She has been named a Top Doctor of San Diego by San Diego Magazine. She also received the 2024 Arbor Award from the University of Toronto in recognition of her volunteer service in the mentorship programs. In 2025, she received the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society (RJOS) courage award.
Dr. Jain continues to be active in mentoring programs through the University of Toronto, as well as UCSD, RJOS, AAOS, PrideOrtho, and AAHKS. She serves as faculty advisor for two RJOS student chapters (UCSD and CUSM). She serves on the UCSD representation, engagement, advancement and leadership committee.
