Susan Walker, RN, DrNP, NDP-BC, CNOR, CSSM, CNAMB is the Clinical Nurse Education Specialist for the outpatient endoscopy and the surgery center at Pennsylvania Hospital. Dr. Walker has over 25 years of experience as a registered nurse in perioperative settings, both inpatient and ambulatory. She has worked as an educator, both in the academic and clinical setting. She also has experience in management and research. Dr. Walker has been a loyal Penn Medicine employee since 2001; her tenure at Pennsylvania Hospital includes working as a clinical nurse in the Operating Room, both Main Campus and at the Pennsylvania Hospital Ambulatory Surgery center, and also as a Clinical Nurse Education Specialist in perioperative services. Dr. Walker received her DrNP in Clinical Education from Drexel University in 2009 and holds a Nursing Professional Development Certification (NPD-BC), she is also a Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) and a Certified Surgical Services Manager (CSSM). Susan joined the nurse education team in March 2020. Since her start as Pennsylvania Hospital, Susan has been the recipient of the Helen McClelland Award for Research and Innovation and has be nominated for several Relationship Based Care Awards. She has participated in numerous unit based and system wide projects that have improved patient outcomes. Susan has published numerous articles and has presented her work at several National conferences.
