Clinical Education Coordinator, Perioperative Services
University of Maryland Medical Center
Registered Nurse with over 45 years of nursing practice, including 25 years specializing in Perioperative Services. For the past 15 years I have served as an Educator in Perioperative Services at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC).
In this role I develop and implement comprehensive education for new hires and current staff, working in partnership with departmental leaders and serving over 300 staff in multiple roles throughout the department. I partner in facilitating multiple workforce development initiatives, focused on staff upskilling and career advancement. As Education Coordinator I routinely interface and collaborate with multiple departments and system-wide educators. For this project, the Informatics team that was partnered with was critical to the project’s success.
My commitment extends to professional service. I have been an active member of the Association Of PeriOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) since 2000, serving in Connecticut, and since 2008, serving in the Baltimore Chapter 2101. At the Chapter level I have held in multiple leadership positions including Secretary, Board Member, Education Committee chair, President Elect and currently serve as President for the Baltimore Chapter.
I have also been an active member of the Chesapeake Bay Perioperative Consortium since 2010. This partnership of educators from many hospital systems in the greater Maryland region pools resources to provide a comprehensive Perioperative Nursing Course two to three times annually. Following AORN Guidelines this course provides a solid basis for knowledge of Perioperative nursing to both new graduates and experienced nurses transitioning into the operating room.
