Overview/Abstract: Performance feedback is a vital piece of the nursing orientation process. It facilitates open communication and increases self-confidence in learners overall; preceptor feedback plays a crucial role in the learning and development of new staff. Often times new employees cite changing preceptors, differing schedules, and time limitations as barriers to getting their preceptor feedback forms completed. Leadership may also note differences in the feedback given in writing to new employees versus the verbal concerns expressed to them by preceptors. Valuable learning opportunities may be missed, and concerns may go unaddressed because of these miss-matched feedback cycles. By implementing digital preceptor feedback method, we strove to increase timeliness and quantity of feedback on orientees while decreasing the time spent on paperwork by both orientee and preceptor. Preceptor training for RNs and non-RNs alike was utilized as an opportunity to increase the quality of feedback given, to encourage constructive communication methods, and avoid missed opportunities for real-time education. The ultimate goal being a change in both orientee and preceptor perceptions of the preceptor feedback process.
