Overview/Abstract: Between FY 23 and FY 25, significant improvements were achieved in both EP on-time starts and room turnover times through targeted process enhancements. On-time starts rose from 37% to 87%, a 135% increase, driven by a detailed examination of workflows and collaboration with key stakeholders. Three major opportunities were identified: ensuring patient pre/post readiness (including toileting, prepping, and consenting), improving anesthesia readiness, and most critically, ensuring timely completion of the EP physician’s history and physical (H&P) documentation in the EMR. The team worked closely with physicians to set a goal of entering H&Ps by 7:15 AM, supported by weekly emails highlighting successes and fallouts, and monthly department and individual physician performance data shared with the department and individual physicians.
Room turnover time improved from 34 minutes to 29 minutes, a 14.71% reduction. This was accomplished by mapping out the turnover process and assigning specific tasks to staff members to eliminate duplication and streamline responsibilities. These focused efforts led to measurable gains in efficiency and performance across both metrics.
