Carmel V. Pound, MSN/MBA, RN, CNOR, CSSM: No financial relationships to disclose
Overview/Abstract: Healthcare is facing an unprecedented era of supply shortages, import tariffs, and inflationary prices. Growth is a consistent challenge to produce new sources of revenue for Surgical Services which is one of the few revenue producing departments in an acute care facility. Nursing leaders are tasked with the growth of service lines to generate new sources of revenue streams. It can seem daunting task when first encountered. Current economic demands may strain the ability of a Surgical Services Department to develop a business department within. Senior leaders may task the leaders of Surgical Services with the growth of a service line. Data from insurance payers based on CPT codes vary with each institution. Building the business plan with this data after assessing the strategic areas of growth will assist with projections in the business plan. The vision that will drive the entire plan will be the focal point of the business plan. Initiation of this process from the source of the data to the construction of the business plan through the delivery of the finished product to the senior leaders will be the focus of this presentation.
