Description: The proposed DNP project aims to implement a standardized NPO short script to impact canceled operating room cases and maintain the safety of the pediatric patient undergoing surgery. For parents/guardians of same-day surgery patients at a pediatric hospital, does implementing a standardized NPO short script, compared to current practice, impact the rate of canceled operating room cases in 8-10 weeks? Anticipated participant size: 600. Inclusion criteria: Parents and guardians of patients undergoing same-day surgery at a pediatric hospital. Exclusion criteria: Persons under the age of 18 and not undergoing same-day surgery at a pediatric hospital. The project is feasible to complete in 8-10 weeks. The site supports the change based on a thorough needs assessment, and the DNP student has already received an IRB exemption at the site for the practice change.
